Some people think photography is just as easy as pointing a camera and taking a picture. Well, sometimes it is, but most of the time it takes a lot more work than that.  In this "tutorial" I'll try to explain what I mean.

In the invisible frames on the left you see several pictures I took tonight. They are just simple pictures for my myspace profile picture and header picture. I only have seven of them shown but it ended up taking twice that many to actually get a good picture.  Everything has to be right to make the picture good. The pictures you see in the pictures in the  bottom five frames are pictures of my granddads. The top picture is his baseball team in the 40's as is the picture on the bottom-left. The middle picture is a montage of him as a baby in the 1910's, the bottom middle picture is a picture of my granddad on grandma's side, and the last picture is a picture of Shattuck's football team in the 30's. They really don't have much significance to this "tutorial", but I figured I would let you know what they were anyways.

The top and the second picture:  You really can't see it very well, but I was just playing with light, and trying to get the lighting right. I am actually doing a hand-stand in the first picture and after all that work the light was too dark.  The lighting  was too dark with the second picture also.   ...and it looks like I'm constipated...

The third picture: The third picture actually turned out pretty decent.  I didn't like how it was posed though. It doesn't look like I really want to be there ( I didn't, I actually hate taking pictures of myself), and the glare of the light reflecting off the wall draws attention away from the subject, me.

The fourth picture: This picture is the best one yet. I captured the mood in this picture which is a major part of getting a good picture.  I wanted to make it look like I was reflecting on the pictures and trying to tell a story about them. The only problem with this picture is that you can't easily see my face so it takes away from some of the mood. You see a lot of this style picture on CD art and album art.

The fifth picture: The fifth picture is the same as the fourth, but it is in sepia tone. I did this in an attempt to make it look old, but the Ninja Turtles T-shirt kind of takes away from the whole historic thing.  You still can't see my face either so that doesn't help any

The sixth picture: This is the picture that I ended up using. It really isn't much different from the last two, but I changed the lighting slightly and moved my head a little differently so you could see my face just that much better. It helps make the mood also.

The seventh picture: This is a good picture, but it looks like I just farted so yeah, not going to use this one...

Last but not least: The final product. This is the picture I used on my profile on myspace. I cropped it a little bit and brightened it a little bit, and that is what I came up with. It isn't my best picture, but it isn't my worst either so I'm happy with it.
